1996 – Dr. Christos Eleftheriades introduced the concept of pyrolysis technology to South Africa and the company was founded.
2002 – A-Thermal establishes itself at their current premises in Olifantsfontein.
2004 – Issued with a RoD, Section 20 Permit and APPA Permit to operate our Thermal Desorption Treatment Plant.
2009 – ISO 14001:2004 Certified
2010 – Another milestone in treating over 5,000 tons of PCB Waste since our inception.
2010 – Issued with a Waste Management License by DEA.
2012 – CAIA Responsible Care Signatory.
2014 – Issued with an Air Emissions License.
2016 – Fully certified integrated management system including ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001: 2007 certification.
2016 – Gas Clean-Up Upgrade will ensure compliance Air Emission Standards for 2020. A-Thermal decided to take proactive approach to compliance. The equipment was designed and manufacturing by our team and local experts in the field.

A-Thermal Winter Games is an annual one day sport extravaganza hosted in conjunction with Olifantsfontein Primary School. A-Thermal Retort Technologies is the Main Sponsor of A-Thermal Winter Games.
The goal is to raise much-needed resources for buying sports equipment for Olifantsfontein Primary School, uplift and educate the surrounding communities and to make communities stronger by bringing people together for a common goal. A-Thermal Retort Technologies assists in conducting educational environmental talks to surrounding schools where they concentrated on the importance of our environment. Pupils are given educational talks about environment, waste management and pollution.
We service to educate children in the communities about their surrounding land and environment and the importance of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle commonly known as the 3 R’s.

A-Thermal Retort Technologies supports Winnie United Football Club, a soccer team from surrounding community. We assist them in getting the necessary sports equipment needed in their day to day running of the team.
Cecor Allied Technologies is the first commercial autoclave treatment facility to process medical waste in Gauteng. The unique form of non-burn technology adopted by Cecor is considered to be a more environmentally friendly and efficient method of medical waste removal. Cecor Allied is a technically innovative and progressive company with a strong focus on customer service, safety and compliance. They are conveniently situated in Olifantsfontein, Gauteng and can easily be accessed by the R21 and N1 highways.
Coal and Waste Utilisation (CWU) has been operating since 1988 in the waste sector with a focus on treating and managing waste streams in an effective and environmentally conscious manner. Currently, special emphasis is on wastewater sewage sludges from treatment works and utilisation sewage sludge combustion with energy recovery, including power generation. CWU specialises in fluidisation processes.
Carbo Consult & Engineering (CCE) owns the System Johansson Gas Producer (SJG) technology (since 1994) and undertakes the manufacturing and sales of power producing facilities. In 2010 Frost & Sullivan presented the South Africa Technology Innovation Award in South Africa to CCE, assessing that SJG technology is the only tar-free gasification technology in the world. SJG technology, based on the gasification of biomass in a fixed-bed downdraft gasifier, is unique, simple and efficient. The gas produced by the gasifier is used as fuel in a turbocharged, Internal Combustion Engine (ICE).
