A-Thermal is also licensed to treat heavy metal waste using a Heavy Metal Configuration Plant. Our technical team were involved in the recommissioning and upgrade to the heavy metal configuration plant. The plant utilizes thermal desorption technology to heat and volatize heavy metals and organics in the waste streams. The facility has a recovery unit that recovers heavy metals such as mercury. The recovery unit can achieve up to 99.99% recovery of certain heavy metals.
In turn any organics in the gas phase is then routed to A-Thermal’s Main Plant for treatment. These gases are subjected to oxidative conditions with temperatures of up to 1100 °C and then final gas scrubbing and polishing is done before thegases are discharged through A-Thermal’s Stack. The Stack is continuously monitored to comply with emission limits that are outlined in the company’s Air Emissions License.
